Maradona supports Messi in hard times

The response from all the people in the world, asking Leo Messi to not leave his national team has been overwhelming. Hashtags, videos, letters, kids making a plea for Leo to not give up and other forms of appreciation to the Barcelona star have been the main topic of conversation for the last couple of days. Looking at this response from everyone makes you think, who in their right mind would ask Messi to leave and never play for Argentina again. All those naysayers are under a rock right about now.

But if there was someone who needed to come out and publicly give his full support to Messi, is Diego Armando Maradona. The Argentinian legend who already had said that Leo has no personality and told him to never come back if they lost last Sunday's final, had the balls to come out and cynically support him and ask him to stay. Diego must have Alzheimer's decease because he contradicted himself just now.

Talking to La Nacion, Diego told Messi that: "Messi has to stay in the national team. He will go to Russia in form to be world champion. He has to rely more on boys who can help take the team forward and less on those who say they have to go. Those who are saying he should quit are doing it so that we won't see what a disaster Argentine football has become. I am very sorry and very angry with what is happening to Argentine football. We hit bottom, we reached the bottom."

But other football figures sent Leo his support, Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov said via Twitter: "Leo, I ask please do not leave your country. There are tough times but you can get through this. A big hug."

Dani Alves also sent Leo a message during his presentation with Juventus: "I did not see the end because it was late and I had commitments. No one can take away Leo's greatness. It's a pleasure to be his friend. He must be with people who respect him and not with those who disparage him. It is a minority who criticize him and he should not give them importance."
