Wednesday's 3-0 French league victory over Lyon in last place gave Marseille their third consecutive victory across all competitions. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored one goal and supplied two assists. In the rearranged encounter at the Stade Velodrome, Marseille rapidly established control over a Lyon squad that was immediately placed under pressure.
The match between Marseille and Lyon was originally set for October 29, but it was called off after supporters threw rocks and other projectiles at the Lyon bus and former coach Fabio Grosso had to have stitches put in his forehead after being struck by flying glass. After Aubameyang crossed the ball, Portuguese striker Vitinha scored with his left foot to give the home team the lead in the 20th minute. Four minutes later, Michael Amir Murillo doubled the lead when Aubameyang burst down the left and delivered the ball to his unmarked teammate at the far post, who headed it past Lyon custodian Anthony Lopes.
