Martino resigns as the Argentina manager

The names of various managers have already started coming in what can already be described as one of the hottest seats in football today. After the Copa America failure in which Gerardo Martino was seen as the main responsible for it, the coach decided that he would also coach the Olympic Argentina team. However, given that the Olympics are not a tournament approved by FIFA, every club can deny permission to any player for attending the tournament.

This is exactly what happened to Martino, many players were denied the chance to travel to Rio de Janeiro for various reasons. This situation reached a peak in which the coach wasn't able to hold his cool and at the end decided to resign due to all the pressure and the stress this whole ordeal generated. Now that Martino is gone, it's time to think which manager will be able to convince Lionel Messi to return in a good mood to the national team. So far, the only coach capable of fully selling Messi the idea that they can win trophies, is Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone. But his arrival is unlikely given that he has already signed a contract extension with the Colchoneros.

An AFA statement confirmed Martino's resignation and didn't really give any more details about it: "The national team's technical team have decided to hand in their resignation. Due to uncertainty over the designation of new authorities in the Argentine Football Association and the serious problems in putting together the team that will represent the country in the Olympic Games, the team has chosen to resign."
