Brazil as a country is currently going through some of the most deplorable time in their history, their political and social landscape doesn't give them a lot of margin for improvement. The reason the Olympics were really made there wasn't to improve tourism or push forward their economy, it's the politicians and major corporate owners the ones who will get rich instead of the population. Every single country that has organized the Olympics in the past 20 years with the exception of the US, has ended in huge debt for the following years.
Some experts even blame Greece's crisis on the 2004 Olympics and how much money got wasted back then. But with Brazil the problem goes much deeper, because besides having all those major issues they are also on their worst football crisis in history. Long gone are the days when Brazil had incredibly talented players who now are legends of the sport. Today they only have Neymar to put them out of their misery every know and then. But for manager Rogerio Micale, this Gold Medal is a new opportunity to change things and move forward to a new era.
He spoke to the press about the new Brazil he wants and about Neymar's next step with his country: "Yes, I am sure this will give reason for pride and confidence in the Brazilian people in the national team. We knew there was huge responsibility on the Olympic team because of how important football is to the country. We can look to the future with more confidence, more pride. Brazilian football is not dead. We have great potential and hope to achieve great things in future. He [Neymar] is just 24, has already won silver and now a gold medal. The natural next step for him is to win a World Cup."
