As we all know every single year, during the pre-season for all teams in Europe, the first matches they play never really count as an actual measure to tell if they will do well during the season or not. For Leicester City and Claudio Ranieri, this pre-season was incredibly helpful in order to get together the most competitive side possible. The Italian coach learned that Ahmed Musa is a perfect addition to the team, he also managed to find midfield balance after Kante's arrival.
All of this was very helpful for the Foxes, but the most helpful moments were the defeats against giant sides such as Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona. Those matches are a great deal of help for them because that way, they can get as ready as they can be to play against the toughest sides of the Premier League and Champions League this season. Although it was just a small taste, it's good enough for them to get hyped and in the perfect mindset.
For team skipper Wes Morgan, the experience was as he told the Leicester Mercury: "It's a learning curve for us to play against such a caliber of team. It's good to get that experience under our belts. There are a few things to learn and we still have work to do but we're pretty pleased with how it went. PSG and Barcelona are the caliber of teams we'll be up against in the Champions League. We have to learn quickly. We're still in pre-season so you have to consider the fitness side of it. Everyone is still trying to get minutes under their belt, so we're not reading too much into the results."
About Musa's performance against Barcelona, Morgan added: "He was fantastic. He made a real impact and definitely caught the eye. I'm sure that's a sign of things to come from him. For him to get two goals will be great for his confidence."
