At the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday, Napoli's chances of winning the Serie A title were dashed as they were held to a 2-2 tie with Genoa.
After second-place Inter defeated Torino earlier in the day, Antonio Conte's squad knew they needed to win, but Napoli couldn't do the job at home. Before Scott McTominay's bold bicycle kick cleared the crossbar, Matteo Politano's curling shot eluded the far post, giving Napoli a great start to the match. Romelu Lukaku, however, took McTominay's pass behind the Genoa defenders and finished past Benjamin Siegrist to give the home team the lead in the fifteenth minute. But Genoa rallied brilliantly after falling down by a goal and nearly equalised via Andrea Pinamonti, whose looping header missed the crossbar. In the 32nd minute, their pressure paid off when Alex Meret's trailing leg took the ball over the line after Honest Ahanor headed Junior Messias' cross into the post.
