OM forced a comeback against Montpellier to win by 3-2

In the opening match itself, Marseille means business in Ligue 1 this time. Their last campaign was quite successful with the fifth-place finish with that they also earned the qualification for Europa League group stage. Marseille started the season with a thrilling winner, they fought back after being two goals down while visiting Montpellier to ultimately win by 3-2 in the end.

At half time if someone would have looked at the scoreboard it would have been hard to predict that Marseille would come out as the winner, Montpellier was 2-0 courtesy of an own goal by Luan Peres and Gaetan Laborde. In the second half, the momentum shifted to Marseille’s side when loanee Cengiz Under cut the deficit in half at 68th minute later Dimitri Payet then picked up a five-minute brace to give OM a lead for the first time.
