Peter Shilton invites Rooney to retire

Oddly enough, the player who still has the record of being the player with the most caps in the England national team's history, has advised Wayne Rooney to stop playing for the Three Lions. It's not a coincidence that Peter Shilton suddenly starts throwing shade at the England skipper because his all-time record is in dire danger from being obliterated by the United man.

The truth is that despite not being the same kind of player he was back in the day, despite not having the same speed from his youth days, Rooney has become a far better player than he was back then because experience is a skill that comes with age and turns out to be far better than prowess. Peter Shilton isn't stupid, he knows exactly that Rooney will probably end up keeping all the personal records in England, that's the only reason why he spoke to the BBC in a negative way about the skipper.

He told BBC Sport: "I don't think he's a striker anymore. We are trying to fit him in, but he's not a midfield player for me. Never will be. He is spraying a few balls around, but I don't think he's being very effective. I thought he should have retired after the Euros. It's not because he could break my record. Far from it. If he does and he plays well, fine."
