Puel reveals he replaced Koeman to help youngsters

English club Southampton gave the most pleasant surprise of the League Cup this past Wednesday, French manager Claude Puel has proved that he is a good fit for the Saints by using the young talent the club has at his disposal. This Wednesday many lads were responsible for defeating Arsenal in the League Cup and managed to qualify to the tournament's semifinals. The boss revealed that one of the reasons he took the job after Koeman left, is because of the vast talent they have in young players.

Talking to the press this Thursday, Puel said: "Southampton chose me at the beginning of the season to help continue the development of young players. It was a condition and I think it's important for me to respect this. I like this also, because in all my different [clubs] it was always important for me to develop and start with new players every time. Like Josh against Everton, it's not a problem for me because I like this and I think it's important also for the club and for the future."

A club statement also confirmed that they are looking into the accusations against assistant manager Eric Black, which suggest he is involved in corruption in football: "Despite numerous requests to provide the club with any evidence relating to the allegation against Mr Black, none has been forthcoming. There is no evidence of any wrongdoing, and as such, the club now considers the matter closed. Eric Black retains the full support of Southampton Football Club."
