Italian striker Luca Toni, has always been a tough player to manage. During his time at Bayern Munich where he became a world class player, he confessed last Sunday after defeating Juventus 2-1 in one of the last games of the Serie A season, that he came very close to getting into an actual fist fight with manager Louis Van Gaal. The Dutchman has been known for having some disagreements with many players, but there had never been reports of any actual brawls with anyone until now.
After Verona's 2-1 victory where Toni scored a beautiful goal from the spot and helped his team defeat the Serie A champions in his last match as a professional player, he revealed some details of this fight. He also said that he doesn't get along with his current manager Delneri, he said that they have already sorted out their problems and this issue was nothing compared to the time he almost got in a fist fight with Van Gaal during his time at Bayern.
Talking to Italian television, Toni said the following: "[Delneri and I] didn't get along very well, that's for sure. But it is not nice talking about it now. In any case we cleared the air. In the past I had much worse misunderstandings with Van Gaal when I was playing at Bayern Munich. Back then we almost came to blows."
About what he will do after he retires, Toni dismissed the idea of becoming a manager because it's too stressful for him: "I have seen my former team-mates age five years every 12 months since they became coaches. I'd prefer to do something in a directorial role. I will speak to Verona and the president, because I still owe the city something. I'd like to help this club get back into Serie A, because it is where they deserve to be. If not then I’ll look around for something to do, because I doubt my wife wants me hanging around the house too much."
