Manchester City started the year in a big way, winning every single match they played and fighting for the top. But during the past two months they have lost a little bit of momentum, without counting the Capital One Cup victory against Liverpool of course. City became one of the first teams in Europe to win a trophy and they celebrated in style. But the season is not over yet and French defender Bacary Sagna knows it, he is aware that the Citizens still need to improve in order to aspire to all the other trophies they are competing. During an interview with the club's web site, he sounded quite convinced getting a treble is possible.
“Yes, we want to win the Champions League but we are desperate to win the Premier League. We have been dropping points, yes, but other teams have been struggling and dropping points also. We are not giving more importance to one competition over the other. We just want to go game-by-game. I train with the guys every day. I witness their desire first-hand. I can see the attitude that we have on the pitch and when we prepare. We could have done better in the league, yes. But we are still in two competitions. We’ve won the League Cup and in the past we have won the title twice. So it is an experience we have been through before and I’m very pleased to have the possibility to do it this season.”
Sagna has also praised the Leicester City sensation Riyad Mahrez, who in his eyes is the most important player the Foxes have this season, not Jamie Vardy: “He has been fantastic – their main player. Of course you have Jamie Vardy in their team but Mahrez has been assisting for him a lot. He has also been scoring too. He comes from a lower league in France and no one wanted him when he left. But he has gone to Leicester and shown his quality. Leicester are top because they have kept their consistency while adding ingredients like fighting for each other on the pitch and working as a team. But I’m convinced we can still come back in the Premier League. We’ve two months to go and we are only looking forward.”
