Saibari strike edges Morocco closer to knockout stage

Ismael Saibari delivered the fastest goal of the World Cup so far, scoring after just 71 seconds to give Morocco a hard‑fought 1-0 victory over Scotland in Boston. Fresh from netting against Brazil, the PSV Eindhoven midfielder showcased his rising value with a composed finish from Brahim Diaz’s lofted pass, underlining why Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing a €55 million move. Morocco, unchanged from their opening draw, controlled the early stages and repeatedly threatened to extend their lead, with Bilal El Khannouss missing a clear chance before halftime.

Scotland, who reshaped their defence by adding Kieran Tierney, struggled to create danger and failed to test Yassine Bounou until late in the match. Saibari struck the bar early in the second half, while Gunn denied El Khannouss moments later. Despite late efforts from Ryan Christie and Scott McTominay, Scotland lacked cutting edge. Morocco now sit on four points and are well placed to reach the last 32.
