Contrary to what happened with David de Gea and the failed fax attempt which frustrated the goalie's arrival to Real Madrid, this time everything went smooth in the summer transfer deadline. There were some surprising moves that need to be addressed here but we'll go over the most important ones, not all of them. Basically, the most important transfers were made in time and weren't left for the final day which is why there were no major surprises.
On the loan department, Spanish goalkeeper Pau Lopez completed his move from Espanyol to Tottenham on a one-year deal. Chilean playmaker Mati Fernandez has agreed on a Milan loan to Fiorentina. Belgian youngster Jason Denayer has also left his club Manchester City, he left to play at Sunderland. In one of the most talked about loans of the day, English striker Jack Wilshere agreed to one of the 22 offers he got after confirming he would be leaving Arsenal. AFC Bournemouth is the club Wilshere will be representing for a year.
Spanish goalkeeper Diego Lopez has agreed to continue his career at Espanyol, Donnarumma's fantastic level has pushed him to leave on a one-year loan. Colombian midfielder Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, has also agreed on a three-year loan from Chelsea back to Juventus FC, it appears manager Antonio Conte didn't want him as bad after all. Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, also left his club Manchester City and chose to play at Stoke City for a full season.
On the transfer front, Spanish full-back Alvaro Arbeloa has agreed a one-year deal with West Ham United, this is what he said after he arrived: "I am really happy to be here in a great club in a great league. The stadium is amazing. It’s really nice and looks fantastic. Hopefully I’m going to see the stadium full with all our fans and I’m really happy to be here. For me, this is a great chance to be back in England and in the Premier League, which is a fantastic league and I want to put myself here again. This is a big club and a great club with fantastic players and a great coach."
Olympic Gold Medalist Douglas Santos has agreed to leave Atletico Mineiro for a five-year stay at German club Hamburg. Also Brazilian defender, David Luiz, has agreed to move back to Chelsea on a €43 million deal. But the Blues didn't stop there, they have signed Spanish player Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina as well. French defender Eliaquim Mangala has reinforced Valencia, he left Manchester City for this new deal.
Finally, French club Nice has agreed on a new deal with Italian striker Mario Balotelli, club president Jean-Pierre Rivere said: "We are very pleased to welcome Mario. We hope that in Nice, in a family atmosphere, he will find the pleasure of the game. We know that nothing will be easy but with the desire and hopefully the support of all our fans, we will allow him to flourish and bring his talent to the team. We are still a growing club. Our progress is not done. We will have a good season with our squad in the various competitions that we will have to face."
The deadline has closed at 00:00 European time, which means no other club in the continent can make any more transfers.
