The FA charges Costa with misconduct

As we reported this past weekend, Chelsea striker Diego Costa was involved in a violent incident which captured him trying to bite Everton's Gareth Barry. Even if he didn't really bite him, Costa was destined to get a ban judging only on his behavior while he was being sent off. There was a moment in which he spat in front of the referee and this action didn't go unnoticed. As for the biting attempt, Gareth Barry's social media statement where he denies Costa had bit him actually helped the striker avoid a long suspension.

Gareth Barry wrote in social media: “Seen a lot of talk about the incident involving me and Diego Costa. For the record Diego did not bite me.”

After analyzing the whole situation, the FA has reached a verdict and has given the player until 6pm on Thursday March 17 to respond to the charge of improper conduct that will surely bring him at least a 2-match ban. The statement describes a later incident in which he responds to the rough jeers he was getting from the Everton fans whilst leaving the field during that match.

Take a look at the statement from the FA: “It is alleged his behavior, after being shown a second yellow card in the game, amounted to improper conduct. He has until 6pm on Thursday 17 March 2016 to respond to the charge. Meanwhile, the Chelsea striker has until Wednesday [16 March 2016] to provide his observations to The FA in relation to an alleged gesture he made towards Everton supporters while leaving the pitch at half-time.”
