Although they don't play the same position, Andres Schurrle and Henrikh Mkhitaryan do share that surprise factor. The German forward has been instrumental in some of Germany's most prolific moments in recent history, he played a fantastic World Cup final back in 2014 for example. He isn't a striker who is only limited to playing inside the box, which is one of the similarities he shares with Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan who just left to play for Manchester United.
For manager Thomas Tuchel, Schurrle will be the perfect answer for Mkhitaryan's departure and will perform at the highest level possible. The Borussia Dortmund board closed the summer transfer window with Schurrle's transfer, they have more than enough talent to try and match or surpass last season's performance. Schurrle was the cherry on top for Tuchel's outline of this season's roster.
Talking to Bild, Tuchel said: "With Mkhitaryan's departure, we have lost a player who can play on the wings and there are not a whole lot of players like him. Schurrle is one of them, though. Players like them do not have an ego, but still contribute a lot of goals. It's always easier when you are a defender playing behind one of them. That's why we so desperately needed Schurrle, because we lost Mkhitaryan playing like this."
