It's these kinds of horror shows delivered by Spanish managers the ones that turn them into public enemy number 1 in any given city at any given point in time. It has happened for decades now, referee's who make a terrible mistake against any club during a match, and they have to face the consequences from their errors. These consequences sometimes come in the form of threats and other deplorable acts that pseudo fans usually tend to do.
Statements from the club's board members don't help them either, for Undiano Mallenco, walking on the streets of Valencia won't be easy from now on. The club's sporting director Garcia Pitarch, referred to Mallenco like this: "He will be embarrassed when he looks back at this game. There were three clear incidents within half an hour: Messi's first goal with Suarez offside, the second yellow offense of Busquets and Rodrigo's [unawarded] penalty. Undiano has to take a look at himself. Spanish football can't have such a disgraceful referee."
However, manager Cesare Prandelli decided to not pay too much attention to the manager's performance and was just happy for standing up to FC Barcelona: "I must be proud. We were close to winning the game. I don't want to comment, but the images are very clear. It was a shame for the players, but I'm happy with our approach to the game. We paid dearly for the fervor of the last few minutes, there wasn't long left, but when we show this courage I am happy. The next game will be more complicated because our opponents will see that Valencia have changed."
