Inter took the lead toward the end of the first half as Lautaro Martinez broke his scoring drought with a superb solo goal to put Simone Inzaghi’s team in front. Things went from bad to worse at the start of the second half when Mehdi Taremi doubled Inter’s lead with a clinical finish.
However, like in the 2-1 semifinal victory against Juventus, Milan didn’t lose hope. Rafael Leao’s introduction in the 50th minute was a game-changing moment. He immediately drew a dangerous free-kick, which Theo Hernandez converted to cut Inter’s advantage in half.
After a catalog of wasted opportunities, Milan found a well-deserved leveler through Christian Pulisic. The USMNT forward was the quickest inside Inter’s box, beating Yann Sommer with an unstoppable low effort.
When it looked like the final would go to penalties, second-half substitute Tammy Abraham pounced on Leao’s cutback to inspire Milan to a remarkable 3-1 victory.
