AS Roma edged past Parma 2-1 at home on Wednesday, thanks to second-half goals from Mario Hermoso and Artem Dovbyk, drawing level on 21 points with Serie A leaders Napoli. Roma thought they had gone ahead before half-time through Matias Soule, but the goal was disallowed for offside after Parma keeper Zion Suzuki’s view was blocked.
The breakthrough finally came in the 63rd minute when Hermoso rose unmarked to head in from a corner. Dovbyk doubled the advantage nine minutes from time, pouncing on a rebound to fire home. Parma made it tense late on as Alessandro Circati pulled one back in the 86th minute, but Roma held firm for the win. “Three important points,” said coach Gian Piero Gasperini, admitting his side struggled early before improving to control the match and create clear chances.
