With the possibility of an electrical storm at Chicago Soldier Field, the Colombia vs Chile semifinal started with the hope that the game wouldn't be interrupted. After battering on Mexico 7-0, the Chilean side was the absolute favorite to win this match and face Argentina in the final for the second time in two years. The first half was mostly dominated in the first half by Chile. Charles Araguiz took advantage of a Juan Cuadrado ball delivery by mistake to get the first goal before the 7th minute. Four minutes later it was Fuenzalida who scored Chile's second after an Alexis Sanchez shot that hit the post only for him to tuck the ball in.
Right after the first half ended, there was an electric storm weather forecast that delayed the match for over an hour. Finally, when the rain cooled down the match got back underway after the staff cleared the field from the water overload in some parts of the field. The fans waited for the rain to clear off inside the stadium, they had to vacate the stands and were called back to enjoy the second half at around 10:25 pm local time.
When the second half started again, both sides had cooled off and the game dynamic wasn't the same anymore. At the end, the Colombian side wasn't able to make a huge impact, even more after a player of them got sent off after a foul. This is how Chile got to reach another final and will repeat the same final from last year's Copa America in Chile. Argentina and the current tournament champions will meet at the final in East Rutherford New Jersey.
