During last Wednesday's match between Liverpool and Chelsea, we could see some more of the progression that Belgian winger Eden Hazard has completed on his way to his full recovery from what we can all deem a dismal season for him. He is coming back to his old self at the best moment of the season for his country, he is about to play the European Championship in France and Belgium will need him at his very best to try and win it.
He scored a truly beautiful goal against Liverpool, with an impressive drive from midfield, a series of dribbles and an out of this world finish that only world class talents can make. Manager Guus Hiddink was very pleased with Hazard's performance, he is a bit sad that Hazard wasn't there in time to save Chelsea's season but now he can rest easy because he is really back from the hell that was that period when his club wasn't winning anything.
"He's had a difficult year. Last year he was one of the best, this year falling into injury, coming back near, then falling back into injury, it made him vulnerable physically and you get frustrated. But the last few weeks he's worked on a program to get him fully fit. Steady by steady he got his shape, you can see what he is able to do to. He is gifted, smart, plays one-on-one, and is very important. He's playing with courage, conceding a lot of physical contacts, but nevertheless he goes on. He is both fit and fresh and it's a pleasure to see those players.
"I cannot make judgements from August to December, but from December on I have experienced he was falling into injury, which made him unhappy, of course everyone wants to play, now he is fresh. I don't know [if Hazard was hurt by criticism], I'll have to ask him. Probably. Listen, everyone in this job has criticism, it's how you deal with that, they're all human. It's possible he can be affected a bit, but it's always good to see a reaction and show he is capable to play how he did."
