Bournemouth’s remarkable season has delivered the first European qualification in the club’s 127‑year history, but the achievement comes with urgent logistical challenges. The Vitality Stadium does not currently meet UEFA requirements, prompting a race against time to complete essential upgrades before next month’s inspection by UEFA’s stadium and commercial operations team. The club has submitted phased expansion plans that would eventually raise capacity from 11,286 to more than 20,000, with the council set to review proposals focused on demolishing and rebuilding the South Stand. A postponed meeting has already raised concerns about delays.
Capacity is not the issue, UEFA demands infrastructure improvements, including a permanent broadcast facility, new perimeter fencing, updated turnstiles and pitch work. Bournemouth initially aimed to add 1,500 seats but scaled the figure down to 800, completing only two corner sections. The club have secured at least a Europa League place and could still reach the Champions League by avoiding defeat against Nottingham Forest or if Brighton fail to beat Manchester United.
