There is a weird trend going on throughout the world of football in which the most talented players get selected as team captains on their national teams. With Brazil it's Neymar the one who wore it but then rejected it, in Colombia it's James the one who does and so far he is doing a good job. But the most interesting case is Leo Messi's with Argentina, mainly because Leo is not a man of too many words and the skipper usually needs to be eloquent with his teammates, something in the vein of Javier Mascherano.
Talking to Chilean publication El Mercurio, former Argentina manager and skipper Daniel Passarella, explained why he thinks it's a bad idea letting Messi be the skipper: "Not giving the captaincy of Argentina to Messi would take a weight off of him. I think Argentina already have a great leader, which is Ramiro Funes Mori. He should be the captain.
"The leader of the group is something different to the way you play and the talent of each player. I admire Messi, but I think his personality, his way of being, is withdrawn and timid."
