Porto gets into a dialectic war with Luis Figo

The days when Luis Figo chose to move from FC Barcelona to the hated rival Real Madrid, is something that will mark his life forever. All the Barcelona fans believe him to be a traitor of the highest order, even more so after he was able to win the Ballon d'Or back in 2000 and then the Champions League in 2002. Nobody will ever forgive him for that in Barcelona, but that stigma doesn't just follow him in Spain, it goes everywhere he travels to.

Even in his own country he is considered a mercenary who only cares about easy money, or that's what the Porto official newsletter said about him after Luis suggested that club president Nuno Pinto da Costa should leave his post as soon as possible. The club responded quickly after Figo's claims, and gave him a low blow after reminding him of that time when he left Barcelona to play for Real Madrid for a record breaking amount of cash back then.

The statement said: "Luis Figo was a great player but his talent was confined to the pitch and seeing him offer his opinion on any and every matter is always a little strange. He was never an example to anybody, except in his love of filthy money. When he was young he came to be known for signing two contracts at the same time, with Juventus and Parma. Later he swapped the admiration of the Barcelona fans for the pesetas of Real Madrid."
