Wenger wants a Mertesacker replacement

Watch out rest of European teams, Arsene Wenger is after all your centre-backs and he will come with piles of cash to lure your best. Turns out that German centre-back Per Mertesacker fell injured during a pre-season friendly and will miss at least five months after he hurt his knee. After the incident, he got into the operating room immediately and got a successful procedure, but this puts Arsenal in a tight spot because Per was their best men besides Frenchman Koscielny.

This means that Arsene Wenger will have to go after a new player in that position and try to get the best possible for this urgent situation. He spoke to the press this past Wednesday and said: "We have bad news on Per Mertesacker. He played in Lens on Friday night, he finished the game and had a little pain on his knee. We found out the next day that it was much more serious than expected. He had surgery yesterday in Germany. It all went well.

"I know you will ask me for how long he will be out. I don't know that, it's months, but I don't know [exactly] how long he will be out for. We have to look for an option to get a bit more experience. We will see some of our young centre-backs on Thursday as well. With Per being out, we are a bit short on the experience front and we are looking to bring somebody in."
