We already knew it, but Italy have confirmed their favorite status for this European Championship, they clashed against Sweden and Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Stadium Municipal in Toulouse. Antonio Conte's side displayed that world famous defensive game which always makes rivals struggle, Zlatan had already scored against them back in the 2004 edition, but this Friday things, would go on a very different path. The former PSG striker looked slow and veteran against a young Italian side, he wasn't able to make the difference as he's done in the past.
The first half was mainly uneventful, filled with defensive feats shown by both sides and a Zlatan Ibrahimovic that kept knocking on the door with very little danger. The match went to the break with no goals and no real meaningful moments. The second half had more of the same, a Parolo header that hit the bar near the 70th minute was the best chance of the match so far, but Italy was cooking up that good old counter attack with which they usually kill their rivals. Every Italian team is like that, they don't seem to go on the attack much, but they pick the right moment to strike and leave you bleeding to death.
Two minutes before the end it happened, Brazilian born Eder bursted into the area after a side throw by Chiellini who saw Zaza making the move towards the box. With a header he gave Parolo the advantage, he took the ball and dribbled his way into the box to place a right footer to the bottom corner. It was a perfect finish for a fantastic Italian style performance. Sweden and company had nothing to do, this defeat leaves them against the ropes and with very little chance to get to the next round. Italy on the other hand, got their round of 16 ticket with two consecutive victories.
