Every single time Gerard Pique has attended the Spanish national team in the past year, he has been jeered by a part of the crowd. This was a mystery for many people who regard him as one of Spain's most valuable assets. But the reason why they jeer him has come to light this Saturday, he has always been prone to get into silly feuds with Real Madrid players because of the utter hate he feels for Los Blancos.
Having been raised as a Catalan and a Barcelona fan since birth, Gerard Pique has always loved and thoroughly enjoyed when Real Madrid suffer and lose. This has obviously not been taken lightly by Los Blancos fiercest fans, one of them is Alvaro Arbeloa, who is a home product and a veteran in the club for that matter. After Barcelona lost to Real Sociedad, Arbeloa sent a Tweet referring to the Catalan's custom of always winning against a ten-man team. He also congratulated former Real Madrid players and friends Asier Illarramendi and Esteban Granero via Twitter.
Arbeloa said the following in his tweet: "How difficult it is to win against 11 men! Great match from Illarra and Granero, mission accomplished! Congratulation Pirat!"
After he was informed of said tweet, Pique responded by practically insultin Arbeloa for not being a protagonist of his club's present day: "A player who has started once in 32 games doesn't deserve a response. I'll tell my friends to tell me when I'm not a protagonist, either on the pitch or off it."
Then Pique moved away from the feud and analyzed the defeat: "We started with the goal and that hurt us. We didn't play well in the first half and the second was difficult. No team can do everything perfectly in a season. The important game is Wednesday. That's where we're playing in the most important competition of all. Of course the 1-0 penalizes us. In the second half we were a bit better and created chances, but it wasn't enough. We deserved our margin and we've been able to allow for these setbacks. Now we're at our limit. We have to move forward. Maximum confidence. You don't have to lose confidence in this team."
The press also questioned Real Sociedad's Estaban Granero, who defended Arbeloa by saying: "Arbeloa is my friend and I admire him a lot. I had spoken with him 'off the record' and promised him the victory, and we won. It's a very important win for us which gives us a huge morale boost and tells us that we can beat great teams like Barca. I don't think about whether it will impact La Liga or not, I'm mostly happy to help my team. If it then helps Madrid, that's even better, because Barca have been my great rivals since I was little."
