Lazio beat Bayern 1-0

Bayern Munich once more fell short of expectations on Wednesday, losing 1-0 at Lazio in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16—four days after suffering a devastating setback in the Bundesliga.

Midway through the second half, Bayern was reduced to 10 men after the German team missed many opportunities. Lazio captain Ciro Immobile then converted a penalty kick.Six-time European champion Bayern has advanced to the quarterfinals or higher in 11 of its previous 12 Champions League tournaments, with Liverpool's elimination in the round of 16 five years ago being the lone exception. Dayot Upamecano, a defender for Bayern, was sent off for a tackle on Gustav Isaksen. Immobile's subsequent penalty kick sent custodian Manuel Neuer reeling. The Italian attacker, who over the weekend achieved the 200-goal milestone in Serie A, has now scored Lazio's last four goals in the tournament.
